- Have enjoyed revisiting some old & trying some new recipes from this book. Pity there are no photos so that American readers can get an idea of what the recipes look like.
- A great book for South Africans living in the U.S.A.
One of the most difficult things about moving to the U.S.A. initially is not knowing food equivalents here, which makes it difficult to duplicate your favorite South African dishes.
This book helps to guide you to good alternatives and optional measurements. - Bought this for my new South African sister in law that moved to the US and she loves the recipes from home, the stories behind the classic recipes that it gives, and the replacement items for ingredients not found here.
- I ordered the book very excited at finally finding a cook book of South African comfort foods and menu's already converted for American baking measures. However, was very disappointed when opening the book and realizing there were zero pictures. Although South Africans would know how their favorite food and bakeries look like, it's not familiar to Americans. I wanted to gift the book to an American friend that is married to a South African; now how would she be able to know how to bake for example "Koeksisters" without any pictures?? It's like baking in the dark.
Sorry for the let-down - please add photos to your next edition and it could be a winner!! - I love, love, love this book. I keep giving it away and have to order another.
