Revealed What the Bible Can Teach You About Yourself Angela D Schaffner 9780835818612 Books Reviews
- I am a clinical social worker and I have a been a Christian for over 30 years, but possibly most importantly here is that I read A LOT.  I am not new to devotionals, Bible studies, self help books, fiction, autobiographies or anything in between.  What makes Revealed so remarkable is that it does not fit into one category.  It is so many wonderful things.  Dr. Schaffner was vulnerable in the telling of her own story, accurate in the use of scripture, and wise in her guidance.  This book is a gift to any reader, any audience.  If you are looking for a new way to dig a little deeper into your faith and into your own journey, I highly encourage you to see what Revealed has for you.
- What makes this book special is that it is so relatable. I found myself resonating with all of Dr. Schaffner’s personal narratives and deeply connecting with her unique insights. Dr. Schaffner breathes new life into age-old bible stories by approaching them from the perspective of internal reflection. I highly recommend this book!
- This book is AWESOME!! Learning that God was thinking about me long before I was even born. Angela did a beautiful job showing how we can learn about ourselves in God's word.
- Revealed immediately grabbed my heart; I was hooked in the first chapter, and remained engaged throughout the entire book. I believe we can all see ourselves in these chapters, whether young or mature, and be challenged to let the Scriptures guide us onto a path of healing in the areas where we struggle. Although Dr. Schaffner brings her expertise as a therapist to bear on each chapter, I was pleasantly surprised by the way she also points us to the Truth revealed in the Word about our human nature, and the love and grace of the God who created us. The layout of the book makes it a great personal study, as well as a valuable resource for group study. We all struggle; and the great questions in Revealed give us the opportunity to honestly admit that we wrestle, and an avenue to begin to encourage, challenge, and help one another on our path to healing.
- Linda D. Viselli, Speaker/Planter of Missional Communities, The Table Lancaster County, a ministry of The Table Network, and The Missionary Church USA; Co-Director and Coach of Couples Life Groups (with my husband), Community Bible Church, PA - I thought this book was great! Dr. Schaffner explained Bible stories I've heard my whole life in a way I'd never thought of them before. She related her own life to the stories, which helped me discover myself in the stories as well. This is no ordinary book telling you to live a better life. Dr. Schaffner gently lead me through her flawed and often heartbreaking life allowing me to relate to these events that shaped her and finding my own therapy in her growth. There is no shame or ridicule in what she writes. Whether you use this book in a group with a facilitator or alone, as I did, she has written it in a way that is easy to follow at your own pace. Her pages are filled with wisdom and this book leaves me wanting to read more!
- As someone in the midst of writing her own book relating stories of the Bible to stories from our own lives and families, I was intrigued to find out what new angles Dr Schaffner might offer from her perspective as a psychologist.
Dr Schaffner’s insights guide her readers through a journey into a Bible which does not lecture, chide, nor always even guide us so much as hold up a mirror to our own lives and relationships, inviting God into those reflections, and recognizing where God’s grace is already at work within us. A tender and authoritative book for anyone seeking a healing relationship with God, the Bible, and themselves. - Dr. Angela Schaffner’s amazing book gives us insight into ourselves through the pages
of the Bible. She brings a fresh perspective to age old stories. Did you know you
can be a Good Samaritan to yourself? Did you know that what your friend shares
about a mountain top experience with God may not be the way God chooses to reveal himself to
you at all? Through her training as a psychologist Dr. Schaffner helps us to rethink Biblical interpretations
we have taken for granted and challenges us to seek God in new and refreshingly healthy ways.
Zoe Hicks - Most Bible studies approach God’s Word either from a historical perspective or from a life application perspective. Both of those types of study are important and necessary, but sometimes Scripture begs us to view it through the lenses of our own humanity. Dr. Angela Schaffner’s book helps the reader to see themselves through the lenses of scripture in a new, fresh and relevant way. Except to reflect on very common Biblical stories in a new light. I highly recommend this study!
