"I co-hosted the first event since this book came out - The Casa Blanca Book Club in Scottsdale, Arizona on Wednesday, February 26th. My phone has been ringing off the hook ever since. This is a must read book about someone, by all rights , who should not be alive today. Jason is the most inspirational person I have ever met (after about some 57 surgeries to rebuild his face). Landon Napoleon is an outstanding author who everybody will be talking about for years to come and a real rising star."

Burning Shield The Jason Schechterle Story Landon J Napoleon 9780988651944 Books Reviews

  • WOW - what a story. I'll never know how he made it through what life threw at him. And his wife Suzie is a saint. Unconditionally recommended.
  • Having been a dispatcher for Phoenix PD when Officer Schechterle was burned, I knew I had to read this story as soon as it was available. Jason's personal struggles and his optimism, as well as, the incredible love between him and his wife inspired me then and continued to inspire me as I learned more about it through this book. Jason's life is a testament to competent, intelligent public safety professionals, doctors, loving and supportive family and friends and the healing of hope. I wish Jason a long and prosperous life filled with beauty and peace.
  • As a frequent-flier I often look for a book intelligently written that isn't fluff-and-stuff, tells a good story, and captures my attention for several hours at a time. This is a superlative example of such a book. From beginning to end the story is amazing and incredible, extremely well-researched and presented honestly and without exaggeration. It reads like a novel yet everything that happened to Jason Schechterle was real. The man was burned alive and lived! The Prologue is one of the best teasers I've ever read. Chapter 11 details the entire sequence of an accident from beginning to end and leaves the reader in awe -"what did I just read?!!" Other chapters brought a lump to the throat for the shear anguish experienced by an individual, a family, and a community of service providers; frustration mounts to see the same carnage over and over because of the non-caring and impersonal greed that drives many corporate decisions.

This book is a fantastic piece of writing. Like a painter with the ability to create a picture so real that it looks like a photograph, Mr. Napoleon has written a book about an individual I can absolutely 'see', about life situations I can 'feel', about frustration and ultimately vindication (of some sorts) for a situation no one should have to experience. It definitely captured my interest and caught me emotionally, and the writing captured my respect.
  • This is the second book of Landon Napoleon's that I have read. The first being "Rules of Action"
I appreciate how Landon can take a very detailed subject like the daily routine of a Police Officer and the long tedious process of a lawyer preparing for a complicated case and keep it interesting to a reader. All the while keeping his characters very human and reveling a compelling story.
  • OUTSTANDING - shame on the Ford Motor company for taking so long to attempt to fix the problem. Many more lives could have been saved.
  • I don't know the gentleman who gave the book 4 stars before even reading it...but I agree with him...Jason rates 4 stars just for being who he is. Landon Napoleon takes us on a journey of an ordinary great kid, who likes to shoot, play golf, have a "chew", etc. We know his favorite songs, his girlfriends..and learn of his biggest desire to become a cop, and how hard he worked to get there. The amazing part is...this "regular" young kid...(could be our son, brother, husband..) turns out to be a most remarkable man..facing his challenges with such courage..and facing the world, telling his story with humor and gratitude to those who helped along the way. I, too, heard Landon and Jason's very first "book Talk"....They shall have many, many more successful ones to come.

  • I really enjoyed reading this book. The style was very easy to follow. I liked that way that the author incorporated past events into the storyline in such a way that they made sense and added to the overall story. This is one man's life story and not just about one terrible event. Truly inspiring!
